Review

This is my first review of a merino wool product.  Before long, you will realize my love for the magical beast that is the merino sheep.  You may laugh, but I am 100% serious. Merino wool might as well be magic.  You may see a $20 pair of socks and say, “Scott, you are out of your mind,” and while that may be true, I promise you that if you are looking for a pair of socks that are going to keep you warm in tough conditions, last you virtually forever, and dry off easily, you will not regret the purchase.  And when I say forever, it’s because Darn Tough© offers a lifetime guarantee, so…yeah….forever.

Merino wool is practically built for outdoor use.  In the right configuration, they can cool you off when you need to let off some heat, or keep you warm when you need to retain it.  There is practically no textile better in terms of breathability and moisture control. Lanolin in the wool is antimicrobial, so they are even odor resistant.  I bought these socks before a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, and after two days of snowshoeing, I honestly couldn’t even tell if there was an odor at all.  If you are wondering, they most certainly held up in -35°F temperatures.  There was a time when my toes got cold, but believe me when I say the socks were not to blame.  In subsequent reviews, you will see that this stands true for almost any merino wool product; including base layers, gloves, hats, etc.
